2.0Industry Overview
Switzerland's public charging network is growing steadily but missed its federal target. The Federal Office of Energy counted 18,284 public charging points at 8,535 locations in April 2026, about 14% more than the roughly 16,000 a year earlier; the federal roadmap had aimed for 20,000 public charging stations by the end of 2025. Zurich has the most points (2,692), followed by Bern (1,891) and Vaud (1,590). Demand keeps rising: fully electric cars reached 22.7% of new registrations in 2025 and 249,832 were on the road, 5.2% of all cars (BFS). Fast charging is the tightest part of the network: Switzerland has about 50 electric cars per public fast-charging point, against 70 in Norway (EnergieSchweiz).

9.0Frequently Asked Questions
▶How much is an EV charging business worth in Switzerland?
ValIndex's multiples table puts Swiss EV charging at 6.5–9.5× EBITDA in transactions and 5.0–7.0× EBITDA on statutory valuations. Networks with busy fast-charging sites and long site contracts sit at the upper end.
▶What drives the value of a Swiss charge-point operator?
Buyers price: (1) site contracts and locations; (2) utilisation per charging point; (3) grid connections and power capacity; (4) the share of fast chargers; (5) software, payment and roaming; (6) the age of the hardware.
▶How big is the Swiss public charging network?
The Federal Office of Energy counted 18,284 public charging points at 8,535 locations in April 2026, about 14% more than a year earlier. Including private and semi-public points, JOYA alone reports 25,000 points connected to its systems (Bilanz).
▶Who are the main Swiss charging operators?
The largest operator is JOYA Mobility (GOFAST, Swisscharge and MOVE, owned by Energie 360°), with more than 2,200 own points. Shell owns the evpass network. ABB E-mobility in Baden makes charging hardware.
▶What are the key trends in Swiss EV charging?
Five trends: (1) network growth below target; (2) mergers of networks into JOYA; (3) ownership by utilities and oil companies; (4) a fast-charging gap compared with Norway; (5) a growing electric car fleet.
▶What are the main risks when buying a Swiss charging business?
The main risks are: (1) low utilisation at quiet sites; (2) electricity and grid costs; (3) slower electric-car adoption; (4) short or insecure site contracts; (5) hardware that becomes outdated. Due diligence should check utilisation per site, site contracts, grid capacity, hardware age and software.
▶Is Switzerland meeting its charging targets?
Not fully. The federal roadmap aimed for 20,000 public charging stations by the end of 2025; in April 2026 there were 18,284. The 50% plug-in share for new cars in 2025 was also missed: it reached 33.9% (BFS).
▶Where are Swiss public charging points located?
In April 2026 Zurich had the most public charging points (2,692), followed by Bern (1,891) and Vaud (1,590). Zug had the most electric cars per public point (53) and Graubünden the fewest (6) (BFE).
