Figures and statements from the February 2026 edition that this edition withdraws or corrects, and why.
- "CHF 4-5B market" replaced by the BFS Spitex statistics: CHF 3.67 billion of revenue in 2024.
- "~2,500 providers (~600 public, ~1,900 private)" replaced by BFS 2024: 605 non-profit, 844 for-profit providers and 1,783 independent nurses. "~60,000 employees" replaced by BFS STATENT: 50,447.

- Spitex Schweiz, ASPS, the Swiss Red Cross and Pro Senectute removed from the key players: they are associations and charities. Home Instead and CarePool removed: not confirmed.
- The cost split is now labelled as indicative: it was never measured.
9.0Frequently Asked Questions
▶How much is a home-care (Spitex) company worth in Switzerland?
ValIndex's multiples table puts Swiss home-healthcare providers at 4.5–7.0× EBITDA in transactions and 3.0–5.0× EBITDA on statutory valuations. Buyers pay more for firms with trained nursing staff, a diversified client base and a clean cantonal licence, and less for firms whose revenue depends on a few family-caregiver arrangements or on residual financing that could change.
▶What drives the value of a private Spitex company?
Buyers price: (1) the cantonal licence and insurer contracts; (2) the share of nursing care (paid by basic insurance) versus home help; (3) trained nursing staff and turnover; (4) dependence on family-caregiver employment models; (5) cantonal residual financing; (6) client concentration and referral sources such as hospitals.
▶How big is the Swiss home-care market?
BFS Spitex statistics count about 424,000 clients, 25.6 million nursing hours and CHF 3.67 billion of revenue in 2024. Providers: 844 for-profit companies, 605 non-profit organisations and 1,783 independent nurses. BFS STATENT counts 50,447 employees in nursing and home-care activities.
▶Who are the main home-care providers in Switzerland?
The largest organisation is Spitex Zürich AG, with 1,500 employees and more than 10,000 clients a year. Most non-profit Spitex organisations are regional, with a municipal mandate. Among private groups, Senevita runs the private Spitex Senevita Casa; its sale to Tertianum was agreed in December 2025 and cancelled by the owner Emeis in April 2026, a decision Tertianum is contesting in court.
▶What are the key trends in Swiss home care?
Five trends: (1) record nursing hours, +10.2% in 2024; (2) for-profit providers take the growth — about 130 new firms in 2024; (3) employment of family members as caregivers; (4) mergers among public Spitex organisations, as in Zurich; (5) consolidation among private groups, including the disputed Tertianum–Senevita deal.
▶What are the main risks when buying a Swiss Spitex company?
The main risks are: (1) regulatory changes to family-caregiver models; (2) cantonal residual financing and public contributions, which led Pro Senectute Zürich to close its Spitex service; (3) nurse shortages; (4) licence and quality requirements; (5) transaction risk. Due diligence should check the licence, insurer contracts, staff qualifications and revenue by type of service.
▶Why are private Spitex providers growing so fast?
Because demand is rising and entry is open: any provider that meets the cantonal licence requirements can bill basic health insurance for nursing care. In 2024 for-profit providers grew nursing hours by 23.4%, partly by employing relatives who care for family members — almost 3,700 people without specific training were hired that year (BFS).
▶Where are Swiss home-care providers located?
Western Switzerland has the most home-care employment (13,688 employees in 1,175 enterprises in 2024), followed by Zurich (10,131 in 512), Northwestern Switzerland (7,218 in 326), Bern and Solothurn (6,261 in 423), Eastern Switzerland (5,929 in 281) and Central Switzerland (4,332 in 174). Ticino has 610 enterprises — mostly independent nurses — with 2,888 employees.
